Child Support Enforcement Customer Service Call Center
For your convenience, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), Division of Child Support Enforcement implemented a toll-free customer service number.
Call: 1-800-447-4278Customer Service representatives are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except state holidays).
Contact the Customer Service Call Center for help (other than legal advice). Staff can answer questions about child support and assist you in getting problems resolved. The Customer Service Call Center serves parents and persons with child support concerns.
Staff works with other Division of Child Support Enforcement offices to:
- Get information you need.
- Direct you to your closest child support office.
- Refer your concerns to the correct child support office.
- Take your application for child support services if you do not receive public assistance.
- Help locate an absent parent.
- Help you establish paternity.
- Establish, collect and update child support orders.
- Begin income withholding.
- Capture unemployment benefits.
- Obtain medical support.
- Check on the billing and status of your account.
If you are hearing impaired and have a telephone device for the deaf (TTY), you may call TTY 1-800-526-5812 to get answers to your child support questions.

Automated Voice Response System:
The Automated Voice Response System service is offered in both English and Spanish 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you have an active child support case with HFS, you can receive the following information from the AVRS:
- Information regarding payments processed by HFS.
Note: If you receive your child support checks from the State Disbursement Unit (SDU), you can choose to be transferred to the SDU or you can call 1-877-225-7077 directly to obtain payment information.
- Account Balance Information.
- Income Withholding Information.
- Appointment Information.
- Tax Refund or Other Offsets.
- Instructions on how to change your name and/or address.
General information on the following:
- What to expect when you go to a hearing regarding child support.
- Explanation of process for modification of a child support order.
- Information regarding the income withholding process.
To access your specific case information, you will need your Social Security number and the date of birth of a child in the case.
If you do not have an active child support case with the department and would like one, a customer service representative will be able to answer your questions and take your application. Please call 1-800-447-4278, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday except state holidays.

DNA Testing:
When a court order is entered for DNA testing on behalf of the parties by Illinois Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), you will be notified via mail as to the date and time from their office.
DNA testing is done at:

Illinois State Disbursement Unit
The State Disbursement Unit is managed by ACS State & Local Solutions. ACS maintains a secure and interactive Web site for the Illinois SDU, where customers can retrieve child support payment history for the last five transactions.
In order to qualify for federal child support funds, each state must have a centralized unit to receive and distribute child support payments. Child support payments for both IV-D cases (current and former cash or medical assistance cases, as well as others who have requested child support services) and non-IV-D cases (those whose child support is handled privately, generally through private attorneys) are processed through this central unit.
